The
BPW Pennsylvania State theme for year 2016-2017 is focused on Alzheimer's awareness. There are over 5 million Americans with Alzheimers disease or a related Dementia with over 236 billion dollars spent each year caring for individuals with these diseases. Alzheimer's and Dementia costs go beyond the financial toll. It is the emotional toll that does the worst harm. The affect on family caregivers is insurmountable.
The Upper Perk BPW is focused to provide more education to our members and our community in understanding Alzheimers and Dementia. Gerry Fioriglio RN, and Certified Dementia Practitioner from
Family Caregivers Network will be speaking at the BPW District XI October meeting about the affects of Alzheimer's on families and the latest research available for diagnosis and treatment.
October 29, 2016 is the Alzheimer's/Dementia Walk in Bethlehem, PA. To find a walk in your local area go to the Alzheimer's Organization
website. November is Alzheimer's Awareness month. At the Upper Perk BPW November dinner meeting will host a speaker from the Alzheimer's Association.
So what can you do to help? Get involved. Attend a "Walk to End Alzheimer's." Go to the
annual conference offered by our local Delaware Valley Chapter on November 16, 2016.
